In order to study in depth the technical and economic aspects of a Passive House, we read the work of Stefan Echterhölter, Technology and economy of the Passive House (original title: Technologie und Wirtschaft des Passivhauses), that was the dissertation thesis for his 2002 graduation from the Technical University of Karlsruhe, in Germany.
Here we review the book, published by Diplom.de in 2003.

Evaluation:
This book is an excellent point of reference for a designer that needs to design a Passive House for the first time.
Several aspects of the design of a passive building are here described in a precise and analytic way. For in-depth study (e.g. air-tightness, building services and so on), other specific material is required.
The material is presented in exactly the way you’d expect the graduation thesis of a German engineer to be: well structures, clear and precise (also, in black and white, a bit academic, and not attractive at all).
In our opinion, this is an excellent reference book. We did not assign it 5 stars due to its eccessive price. The AEC world is constantly evolving, and at least the part of the book dedicated to the economy of the Passive House is no longer up to date (the book was published in 2003).
Who may be interested in this book:
Architects and engineers who want to become familiar with the technical knowledge that is required to design a Passive House.
